The service receives the SNMP requests from the network, decodes them, and then dispatches them to the appropriate SNMP Extension agent. The service is also responsible for sending traps on behalf of SNMP Extension agents, and forwarding trap messages. Hello Community, i am working on a script, which is collecting data from the switches via SNMP. My problem is, that i need to know the OID which can be used to find the MAC of a Client directly connected to a port of the switch. May someone had the same problem and can help me:-) Kind regards.
It doesn't really matter which OS version you're using:
How Snmp Works
cd /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
sudo launchctl load -w org.net-snmp.snmpd.plist
On Mac OS X Server you can also enable SNMP via Server Admin.
Older versions (10.4, I think, but maybe later) work by setting:
SNMPSERVER=-YES-
Snmp Client For Mac Catalina
in /etc/hostconfig
![Snmp Client For Mac Snmp Client For Mac](/uploads/1/2/6/6/126646233/247759125.jpg)
In either case, since 'public' is the default community string you don't need to do anything more, although IMHO no one should ever run with the public setting so I recommend changing /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf to use something better.
